Parent & Grandparents
How to Sponsor your parents & Grandparents
The first step in getting your parents & grandparents to Canada is getting invited by Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) to become a sponsor.
Once you’ve been deemed an eligible sponsor, you may submit an application to have them become a permanent resident in Canada.
Requirements
In order to be eligible to sponsor your parents and grandparents you must:
- support them and their dependants financially
- make sure they don’t need social assistance from the government
- be at least 18 years old
- live in Canada
- be a Canadian citizen, a permanent resident of Canada, or a person registered in Canada as an Indian under the Canadian Indian Act
- have enough money to support the persons you want to sponsor To show that you have enough, you’ll have to provide your proof of income.

How to Sponsor your Spouse & Dependent Children

- be at least 18 years old
- live in Canada
- be a Canadian citizen, a permanent resident of Canada, or a person registered in Canada as an Indian under the Canadian Indian Act
- be able to prove that you’re not receiving social assistance for reasons other than a disability
- you can provide for the basic needs of any persons you want to sponsor
